Voting By Club Members - Both Initiatives Pass!

New Breed Standard and New Constitution & ByLaws: Membership Approval Tallied on January 18, 2012

As the Club has moved towards full AKC recognition, several key documents must be changed to conform to AKC guidelines and methods. The three most important are the Breed Standard, the Club's Constitution, and Bylaws. AKC mandates that breed standards, Constitutions, and Bylaws must be generated and documented in AKC approved formats and phrasing. This brings about a cohesiveness for breeders, specialists, judges, and fanciers for all dog breeds. The process of changing a Breed Standard is never an easy one. USACTC has, for many years, followed the FCI standard for the Coton and our Club's guiding rules and principles dictate a Coton that conforms to the FCI standard. With the opportunity before us, our Breed Education Committee spent many months developing a new Coton standard that was acceptable in format and meaning to the AKC executives. Once approved by AKC and the USACTC Board, this standard was submitted to all Club members for a vote of approval. Votes have been received and formally tallied. An overwhelming number of voters approved the new Breed Standard as well as the new Constitution and the new Bylaws.

These new documents are now in effect and our web site will be updated within the week to include the latest standard, Constitution, and Bylaws. We will include links to download printable formatted documents as well as links to historical documents.

Thank you for your continued support as we look forward to 2012.

National Specialty 2011 - A Great Success!

The USACTC 2011 National Specialty was held on December 15th and a USACTC Regional Specialty was held on the 16th. Both were held at the Floriday's Resort in Orlando, Florida. Thanks to everyone for participating and for helping out. The event was well attended with a large and beautiful facility and perfect weather. It was a great time to reconnect with old friends, make new friends, and most importantly - see our best friends, the Cotons.

Volunteers made a valuable contribution to the overall success of this National Specialty. The USACTC Board would like to extend our thanks to all of you for bringing such a dynamic and diverse group together and for making this year's National Specialty a success! Thank you.

"Today we were informed by the AKC, that the USACTC has been chosen to be the Parent Club for AKC. We have attached a copy of the letter. While we understand many of the challenges that face us in the years to come, we are pleased that the Coton de Tulear will now have a strong, single voice to speak for them."
